Between The Posts

October 2019

Welcome to Mumbles Rugby Club and the monthly newsletter ‘Between the Posts’. What a start to the season it has been which I will report on later in this issue. I also have details of some social events which you need to make a note of.

As I said in my introduction the 1st XV have got off to a flying start winning all 4 league games including three bonus point wins which puts the boys clear at the top of Division 2 West. Following on from the opening victory over Pontyberem, wins against Loughor (A) 36 – 26, Pontarddulais (H) 30 – 22 and Fishguard (A) 31 – 29 gives the boys 19 points two clear of Burry Port, who we face in a couple of weeks time! As I said, an outstanding start and what a turnaround, from this time last season, when I think we lost the opening four games!  Last Saturday saw the boys come up against Aberystwyth from Div 1 West in the 2nd Round of the Plate. This gave Head Coach Stu Fletcher an opportunity to not only rest a few players with injuries but to try out a few youngsters who are pushing hard for a 1st XV place. While it was a first defeat of the season 24 – 44 the boys gave a really gave good account of themselves and pushed Aber right to the final whistle and I have to say the two late tries really flattered Aberystwyth. Following the postponement of the  Tycroes game due to a waterlogged pitch we host Kidwelly this weekend and hopefully back to winning ways!

The Youth have also had a pretty good start to their campaign following on from their cup win against a huge Abergavenny side, the boys drew 15 – 15 with Dunvant and were unlucky to just miss out at home to South Gower 17-18! This Saturday is an away game at Cwmgors in the WRU Cup.

Lots of hard work is going on to try and deliver this ambitious project, however we do need your help if we are to be successful. Attached to this Newsletter is a handout which has been circulated to all those who are involved in this project including Mumbles Rugby Club, Mumbles Rangers Football Club, Swansea Cricket Club, Mumbles Community Council and Mumbles Community Association. We are determined to get this project done but need YOUR HELP to get it over the line!

Please read the Go Underhill document and if you can help or know someone who may be able to support us by donating funds or offering building work please get in contact with me or any member of Mumbles Community Association. We will get it done but let’s make it sooner rather than later!

Well that’s about it for this month. It’s been a great start to the season and there is a real buzz about the club. Let us all work together to maintain this success for the club from the Juniors through to the Seniors and everyone in between because we are all part of the Mumbles ‘Family’!

I know it is still October but don’t forget to book your place for the Christmas Lunch in December, it really is an event not to be missed!

I do hope you will be with us on the exciting journey that lies ahead, we won’t be able to do it without you!
